Every Thing Good Needs Replacing, Even Dog Doors
Dogs coming in and out of your house through the dog door, it’s bound to get worn down in the long run. Dog doors are an essential part of your pet’s life, which allows them to go independently outside, avoiding unwanted behavior. It is also very important to keep your dog doors secure. Some companies claim that their products are durable enough, not needing replacement, but you’ll never know especially with boisterous, active dogs. Don’t skip keeping your dog door well-maintained and working conveniently. If your door flaps need some repair, think of replacing them with new ones.

How do we begin looking for the appropriate dog door replacement flaps? First things first, each replacement flap is different depending on the brand. One type of dog door flap cannot be used for another because of the differences in design, connection points and manner of movement. Therefore, you must determine the correct door flap to replace your current one. Determine the right replacement flap by searching for your door flap at your store or on the Internet. Check out the company from which you bought the original one. Usually, companies provide replacement flaps for their products. Determine the size of your dog door. Actual dog doors may measure slightly differently as indicated, but do not fret since this is only because some companies round off the numbers for convenience.

Check out the components of your door flap in order to identify the right one. Some pet doors have metal strips along the bottom, and nubs and holes at the top. Some flaps consist of ribbing along the top. Some flaps are clear plastic ones, with metal tabs fastened on the sides. Some dog door flaps however are color black and made of rubber. If you’re looking for something chew-proof for naughty dogs, metal flaps might be also be a good idea. Other models have flaps with segments (usually three), which are connected with flexible rubber gaskets. They may also have rubber gaskets to protect around the perimeter. You may also find 2 piece flaps, with inner and outer flaps. These great flaps may also have individual magnets along the bottom to prevent drafts. The magnets will keep your flaps stuck to the frame. Knowing these descriptions will allow you to find the appropriate replacement flap.

If you’re up to doing the replacement as a do-it-yourself project, you may want to check out the replacement guidelines. As a general instruction, you must first dismantle your worn out door flap. The simple flaps may have mounting screws which you have to loosen using screw drivers. Once loosened, you may remove the bar holding the flap, after which you can now remove the flap and install the new one. Some dog doors have frames, which you may also remove using screw drivers. These framed flaps have connecting bars from which the flaps slide out. Once taken out, you may now reassemble the new flap. Carrying out this project may be intimidating at first, but once you have found the right flap, your dog door will be good as new.
